#3 Tips for Beginning Runners

I can give you links galore for articles on running tips. I’ve chosen three.

First is the list of tips you’ve already seen with my document “Just Run 4 Fun – I Want to Run. Where do I Begin?” My most important point is to consult with your health care providers before anything else. Be sure to include warmups, cooldowns, and slowly ease into running using the right plan for you, 5k or 10k, etc.

Another great list of tips for beginning runners comes from partway around the world. “Electric Ireland”. Tina Murphy’s newsletter on their site, “The Top 10 Running Tips For Beginners”, starts with listening to your body, focusing on your breathing, and finding a group to run with. She also values cross-training and wearing proper shoes. Her approach is, “you don’t need to punish yourself to get fit.”

A little more advanced “Newbie List” appeared in Runner’s World Magazine awhile back. Good information worthy of your attention. Their top points are a proper shoe fit, picking a race, and finding the right training plan.

All three sources focus on the runner’s well-being. We all learn something a bit different, even when we read the same data. Thus the 3 links. Hopefully you will find something worthwhile in one or more of these sources.

Happy running!
